Christian Pulisic is finally back from injury. The USMNT star returned from the sidelines earlier in March. Since then, he played a few minutes for Chelsea in its upcoming games. The American soccer star was immediately roped in for international duty as well. After putting on a good show during the last international break, Pulisic is back in the limelight. On a recent podcast, an American soccer legend carefully analyzes his current impact and role in the national squad.

It’s also important to remember that the ultimate end goal for the US is to win the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
Can Christian Pulisic lead the US to World Cup glory?
Christian Pulisic has been an integral part of the American soccer setup in the last few years. Even though the star winger possesses the qualities of a natural leader, there is another glaring problem with the soccer star. And that problem is injuries. After spending months on the sidelines, Pulisic has just recovered from a moderate injury.

American soccer legend Alexi Lalas was very critical of Pulisic’s role in the current setup. This wasn’t the first time Lalas was openly speaking about potential future USMNT legends. On Alexis Lalas’ State of the Union Podcast, Lalas’ said, “I’ll be really interested to see how he evolves, how he grows and how he changes going forward. I hope that involves leading the US like we talked about to the promised land”.

He continued, “But if the last seven years are any indication. Who knows what the next three years and obviously what the next ten years are going to leave us. I don’t know if he lives up to the billing of being the best American male soccer player of all time, but it’s gonna be fun watching him try”.
Without a doubt, Pulisic will remain one of the main components in the USMNT setup leading up to the 2026 World Cup. Her recent performances for his national team have been phenomenal.
Can the USMNT carry the CONCACAF winning form into the World Cup?
The USMNT is currently competing in the CONCACAF Nations League. They’re currently cruising on at #1 in the group with ten points. Christian Pulisic was part of the starting XI that recently thrashed Grenada 7-0. Pulisic managed to score a goal and record two assists. The USMNT star also started the next game against El Salvador where the US won 1-0.

All these international tournaments are ultimately leading up to the FIFA World Cup in 2026. America is one of the tournament hosts, along with Canada and Mexico. With a slight home advantage, American soccer critics consider 2026 their best chance to win the World Cup.
US Soccer needs to build a strong team around core players like Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams, and many more. But for that to happen, Pulisic needs to consistently stay fitter over longer periods.
