The Welsh soccer club has seen a dramatic rise in popularity and performance since the start of the Ryan Reynolds-Rob McElhenney era and looks set for promotion to the fourth division this season. It looks like Reynolds has the same lofty ambitions for the Ottawa Senators.
Ryan Reynolds’ plans for Ottawa Senators
With Eugene Melnyk passing away earlier last year, the Senators have been in search of a new owner since then. Ryan Reynolds has been in the running for acquiring the Canadian NHL team for a long time. Reynolds is one of the names included in a consortium that is in the process of bidding for the Senators.
The takeover of Wrexham has surely opened the doors for Reynolds to more ambitious projects in the world of sports. In a recent interview with BNN Bloomberg, he talked about his goals for the NHL team.“You’re making sure people care about the town that club is in. The job with Wrexham hasn’t just been the football club … what I care about is that people care about Wrexham all over the world,” Reynolds said. “I don’t care if you’re in Dubai or Alabama, I want people to care about Wrexham”.
He further explained, “I want people to care about the community. That’s a page right out of the playbook and that’s something I would do in any similar situation”. Reynolds looks to be aligning himself with the culture and history of Ottawa in order to bring the sport close to the people. The Deadpool actor appears fully prepared to take over the team, but there is a significant target on the table that could thwart his dreams.
A huge obstacle for the Wrexham owner in his acquisition
The Ottawa Senators are the focus of Ryan Reynolds, and the bid to acquire them is highly competitive. Just a few weeks ago, reports came of an offer for more than $900 million for the team – to the tune of approximately $925 million.

Friedman at the intermission says there is at least one bid in the sale of the Ottawa Senators that came in over $900M, there is no confirmation but it is believed the bid was $925M.

Although there have been no announcements as to who made this incredible bid, many speculate that it is from a consortium headed by Mr. Reynolds. Should this conjecture prove to be false, then Ryan will surely face a grand challenge in outbidding such a formidable price – one that could possibly keep him from ever owning the team he dreams of heading up so much.
