The US Presidential Election is just around the corner. Early voting has begun in some parts of the country as the race for the presidency continues between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. In the meantime, prominent figures are stepping up to make voting appeals for their preferred candidates, with Megan Rapinoe also joining the effort.
Vocally pledging her alliance with Kamala Harris, the 38-year-old made a lengthy appeal among her 2 million ardent Instagram fans to cast their votes by all means. She did so by posting a picture of herself in a USWNT shirt celebrating during the 2019 World Cup campaign. More interestingly, the post was shared in collaboration with Doug Emhoff, Second gentleman of the United States and husband of Harris.
“Just 15 days left to make our voices heard at the polls!” began Rapinoe in her message. “I’m voting for Kamala Harris because I believe in the power of coalition building- it’s how we create lasting change. I have worked toward a goal through different approaches and perspectives, fighting to move forward and make progress for everyone is always worth it. Let’s unite for a better future.”

“Make a voting plan at IWillVote.com and get involved with go.kamalaharris.com,” concluded the former OL Reign star, now known as Seattle Reign. Looks like Rapinoe’s choice is clear; she is ready to cast her vote for Harris instead of the opposition, a.k.a. Donald Trump. Of course, everyone saw that coming, considering the history she has with Harris’ rival.
There has been an ongoing feud between Rapinoe and Trump, which began in 2019 over her criticisms of his administration’s stance on inequality. Known for her outspoken views on social and political issues, Rapinoe even publicly declared that she would refuse to visit the White House if the team won the 2019 World Cup. As you know, this isn’t the first time that Megan has advocated for equality and women’s rights has sided with Harris.
Back in August, during the campaigning phase, Rapinoe boldly expressed her support for Kamla Harris to win the elections. “Frankly to vote for a woman and a black woman at that and an Asian black woman at that is so historic and so incredible like I just feel a huge privilege to be a part of that,” she said, before calling out Trump for a Presidential debate against Harris.

While Megan Rapinoe has every reason to support and advocate for Kamala Harris, the latest update may be disappointing for her. According to a forecast from Decision Desk HQ/The Hill, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump surpassed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris for the first time on Sunday. Reports indicate that Trump now has a 52% chance of winning the presidential race.

Up until the end of August, Harris had been leading, with her chances fluctuating between 54-56% compared to Trump’s 44-46%. However, she now stands at just 42%. This is undoubtedly disheartening for Harris supporters, especially Rapinoe, who is deeply invested in preventing a Trump victory. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how the race will unfold from here.
