Jose Mourinho was that manager with the Midas touch. The keyword here is ‘was’. ‘The Special One’ hasn’t hit the heights he is used to in his recent managerial spells, starting from Manchester United. In fact, he is currently without a club after being relieved from coaching duties with Roma on January 15. With no credible reports linking him to European clubs, what could be next for the Portuguese tactician? Perhaps, it could be a change of continent.
As per reports, Jose Mourinho has contacted another Portuguese manager working in the Saudi Pro League. The topic being discussed was the technical level of soccer in the country. The other coach reportedly said, “The Saudi League is strong and there is competition and club competition, but the teams that are currently technically ready are Al Hilal and Al Nassr.”

Interstingly, Al Nassr and Al Hilal are two teams that employ Portuguese managers (Luis Castro & Jorge Jesus). But having a manager as decorated as Jose Mourinho could be a huge boost to the league. Moreover, it could also be a great step for Mourinho at this stage in his career. The 61-year-old could thrive under less spotlight and a successful spell in the Middle East could make him attractive again to European Clubs.
Also, the ‘Special One’ himself admitted that he will inevitably work in Saudi in the future. He had said, “I am convinced that I will work there (Saudi Arabia). I don’t know when, but I am sure of it.” Without a club for 55 days, a trip to Saudi Arabia could be sooner rather than later for Jose Mourinho. But, one thing is absolutely clear.

Even during his time with AS Roma, the Portuguese tactician was heavily linked with 11th-placed Al Shabab. In fact, he had revealed that he knew quite well regarding the project at the club. Jose Mourinho had said, “I will present an expanded plan to bring Al Shabab back to the podium by strengthening the team’s ranks with international players during the next summer transfer market.” However, it seems recently that he had a change of heart.

In February, the former Real Madrid boss reportedly said, “I will not coach Al-Shabab Club.” Unlike Al Nassr or Al Hilal, Al Shabab does not have a star-studded squad. Hence, it seems the manager is waiting for a bigger platform. Perhaps a reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr could be on the cards.
