What a time for USWNT fans! Morale is soaring after the women struck gold in Paris. It was so huge that it had to take over NBC instead of airing on USA Network. But you know how things go, right? With big moments, come some drama too. First, fans were not happy with NBC for their lack of replays and then, they completely skipped the medal ceremony. Viewers watching on NBC saw Mallory Swanson nail that goal and felt all the excitement when Emma Hayes and her crew went wild after winning. But guess what they missed? The moment when the amazing USWNT actually got their shiny gold medals! So why did this happen?
Well, tight schedules can be a pain during the Olympics. At that same time, there were track and field events stealing the spotlight which took priority. Thus, NBC decided to just skip right over the medal ceremony to focus on those live games instead. Plus, NBC tends to save these medal ceremonies for prime-time shows later (classic move).
If you’re keen to catch it live or relive those moments again though, don’t forget about Peacock streaming—it’s always an option! But fans are not having it. Many netizens have been pretty upset about waiting around for the medal moments they wanted to see and took to social media to express their frustration.

USWNT fans voice their frustration after no medal ceremony coverage
It is safe to say, NBC’s coverage of the USWNT vs Brazil final wasn’t without its hiccups. The first big issue popped up when Mallory Swanson scored a goal. It looked like both she and Sophia Smith were offside during the play, but somehow that goal counted—and no replays were shown! Later on, it turned out Swanson was actually onside and Smith didn’t affect the play at all. Still, everyone was left scratching their heads because there were no clear visuals provided.
And then they miss showing the medal ceremony? One fan fired off a tweet on X saying something like “What is WRONG with you?????”
Serious @NBCOlympics No medal ceremony for @USWNT What is WRONG with you????? @Olympics #gold

One fan called out what they saw as straight-up bias, pointing out how NBC made sure to broadcast the US Men’s basketball team’s medal ceremony but totally skipped over the UWNT.
NBC is showing the US Men's basketball team medal ceremony, but they wouldn't show the USWNT medal ceremony. In this essay, you better believe I will…

While everyone should’ve been celebrating such a huge win, this drama has definitely left a sour note. Nonetheless, it shouldn’t take away from what Emma Hayes and her squad managed to pull off at the Paris Olympics and that is winning the gold for the first time in 12 years. That’s something to be proud of!
