Is Rose Lavelle being underutilized at Chelsea, or is she just waiting for her moment to shine?

The USWNT faced major changes in structure since Emma Hayes took over the team. Obviously, the omission of Alex Morgan dominated the headlines. But it looks like the English head coach probably prefers a younger squad and some players like Rose Lavelle remain uncertain about the future. But with all the noise from outside, she wants the best for the USWNT and loves the team’s fresh start.

The 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup remains the next target after winning the Olympic gold medal. Now Emma Hayes has time to kick back and collect all the infinity stones to complete her team. In just two months, she earned the Olympic gold medal. Imagine what she will do in three years. With the potential limitless, Lavelle felt the same about the manager.

In an interview with The Women’s Game, Lavelle stated, “Honestly, what I felt the whole tournament like because we had such a short time with the staff, I felt like, even given like how well the tournament went, I still felt like we’re literally just scratching the surface of what we can do.”

“I think it’s just going to be such an exciting time for the team. I think it’s been a while since we had a summer off I guess, where we don’t have a qualifying or a major tournament. So I think it’s just gonna be like a huge opportunity for like, growth and experience for everybody and I think the best is yet to come,” she explained.

Notably, Lavelle described the uncertainty of heading to the tournament but remains positive for the future. Lavelle explained, “Yeah. I literally kept saying that. That’s like all of my tournament experiences. It all comes down to this tournament. And it’s always like the end of something because you’re never going to be that team ever again. Like, still with this gold medal team, you still don’t know what could happen.”

Rose Lavelle thrilled about the future with Emma Hayes

With Hayes, she prefers to take control of the team like most managers and remains unfazed at making tough decisions. The squad keeps changing and heading to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, players like Alyssa Naeher, 36, might not make the squad. There is uncertainty regarding the squad members in the future, but none on the team’s performances.

Lavelle continued, “We probably won’t be like that same exact group of players and staff. Like you don’t know who comes and goes. But I do think the whole tournament it was like, no matter what happens, this is the start of something. And I think it’s the start of something that everyone’s really excited about.”

It’s a great time to be a USWNT fan. Often criticized for putting off-field matters on top rather than performances on the pitch, this team looks complete. Don’t get me wrong, Megan Rapinoe and Co. did a lot for the USWNT owing to this success. But in terms of pure soccer ability and tactics, this USWNT looks special. Hopefully, they can win the World Cup and enjoy their success.
