Is MLS showing favoritism by not disciplining Miami's players for their aggressive antics?

The Game 3 between Inter Miami and Atlanta United has been a heated one. With significant stakes on the line for playoff advancement, tensions ran high, and aggression was evident throughout the game. Central to this clash were Luis Suarez and Leo Campana, both of whom appeared to lose their cool following Lionel Messi‘s goal.

During the match, there were several minor confrontations between Suarez and Atlanta United goalkeeper Brad Guzan. At one point, Suarez even confronted Guzan over an alleged foul. However, emotions escalated dramatically after Messi scored a second goal for Inter Miami.

Following the goal, Guzan attempted to impede Messi’s efforts to quickly restart play. This did not sit well with Leo Campana. He immediately shoved Guzan, causing him to fall backward. Before Guzan could regain his footing, Luis Suarez approached him aggressively while shouting and pointing fingers in his direction.

Unsurprisingly upset by this encounter, Guzan expressed his frustration vocally towards Suarez until the referee stepped in to defuse the situation. His displeasure extended toward the referee as well. In response, fans took to social media to voice their opinions about this altercation. A fan described the entire incident as an “ugly scene” and criticized Campana and Suarez for their ‘disrespectful’ actions.

Many have called for disciplinary action against Inter Miami’s players over their conduct during this incident. One supporter even questioned why the referee didn’t issue a booking, with another agreeing that it was “Horrible stuff.”

These are scenes certainly no fans like to see.  Other than this the match also didn’t fall in favor of Inter Miami. And for Lionel Messi’s side, this chase to win the MLS Cup also ended prematurely.

For Inter Miami, the match was filled with ups and downs. The Herons started strong by netting the first goal when Matias Rojas capitalized on a blocked shot from Lionel Messi. However, their celebration was short-lived as Miami’s defense faltered under pressure from Atlanta United, who scored two goals within just three minutes.

Yet, Lionel Messi refused to back down and responded with a header reminiscent of his famous goal in the 2009 Champions League final. Unfortunately, this effort wasn’t sufficient as moments later, Atlanta regained their lead, sealing Inter Miami’s fate and sending them home empty-handed. The match ended 2-3 shattering Inter Miami’s ambitions.
