In December 2023, the EU’s top court passed a judgment in favor of the European Super League. They said that UEFA cannot stop them from starting a new competition as no one has a monopoly on the sport. Hence, the ESL once again brought themselves back into the equation. Now, in the hope of keeping the top clubs loyal to them and away from their competitors, UEFA has made a monumental decision. According to the reports, the UEFA will generate a threshold of $5 billion available from 2024 to 2027.
Notably, the prize money for entering the qualifying for the elite competition will substantially increase. The teams will also receive more money as they keep winning games and progress to the next round. Likewise, they won’t disregard the women’s and youth competitions in their plans to rule the soccer fraternity. According to reports, a total of $26 million will be reserved for them.
It looks like UEFA is not going to play the waiting game against the European Super League. However, this is not the first setback the league has faced this month in their efforts.

In an earlier interview, Barcelona president Joan Laporta had said how the ESL will commence from the next season. He also mentioned the names of several clubs that had agreed to join the European Super League. As soon as the names of the clubs went viral, some of them, including AS Roma, Feyenoord, Marseille, and AFC Ajax, rejected the claims and made their opposition clear against the much-opposed league.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez also made similar claims that 20 clubs had agreed to join the European Super League. However, he refused to take the club’s names because of the attention of UEFA.
