We are less than 48 hours away from the coveted UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. While Madrid has been a behemoth when it comes to the competition, it’s Dortmund’s first chance in the finals after losing out to Bayern in 2013. Both teams have been exceptional in the competition this season. While Los Blancos have shown why they are known as the ‘Kings of the Champions League’,  Dortmund have proved they are ready for any challenge.

While both teams will be fighting for pride and glory, the prize is surely a plus point for the winner. The winner of the UEFA Champions League receives $21.5 million in prize money alongside the coveted European silverware. The winning team also gets 40 winner medals, which the team can distribute to their players based on their criteria. Meanwhile, the runner-ups are not far behind, as the second-placed side receives a monetary reward of $16.15 million alongside the runner-up medals.

Both Dortmund and Madrid will walk away with either of the price amounts this Saturday as they look to finish their night on a high. Semifinalists, i.e. PSG and Bayern Munich, will receive a $13.2 million grant, while teams such as Manchester City, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid that made it to the quarterfinals will receive a sum of $11.5 million.

Borussia Dortmund look to make Champions League history against Real Madrid

It has been a while since the Champions League has seen a true underdog story. Borussia Dortmund, who many expected to exit during the group stages of the competition, silenced their critics in style, making their way to the finals of the competition. While surviving the group of death was a tough ask, the Men in Yellow did it in style as they finished at the top of their group. From there, the team got past the likes of PSV Eindhoven, Atletico Madrid, and then PSG, consolidating their spot in the finals.

While Dortmund does not have a star player like Real Madrid, their team games have been off the chart. The side has been solid in their defense throughout the tournament, with Gregor Kobel doing a fantastic job between the posts. However, the team will face their toughest challenge at Wembley as they face Real Madrid. Los Blancos perform when the lights are bright and the team would love to bag another title while putting an end to Borussia Dortmund’s fairytale run.
