It’s been a while since Tyler Adams kicked a ball on the pitch. Yet he has been entertaining soccer fans lately with bold comments on the latest buzz. Many think he subtly normalized spying when he said it was common among teams while speaking about Canada’s drone-gate at the Olympics. Now, he has lamented USMNT’s abysmal display at the 2024 Copa America. But he knows there’s no time to waste thinking about a forgetful moment. For Adams and the USMNT, the next big priority is the US-hosted 2026 World Cup. Adams insists that the US team should hire a hard-boiled veteran coach to lead the team to the WC.

The USMNT is continuing its quest to find a replacement for ex-coach Gregg Berhalter after the Copa exit. This coach hunt became a talking point in Tyler Adams’ recent appearance on the Men in Blazers podcast. And Adams fancies having a strict manager at the USMNT’s helm, it seems.

Adams also added that the USMNT has a minimal campaign before it embarks on the 2026 World Cup at home. However, he thinks the short period could help the US find a new coach quickly and amp up the team like they do in the Premier League. “I think that’s always the best way when you have a short time. You see it in the Premier League all the time when managers get sacked after three games, four games. The best way to get results is bringing someone in and having someone that you know what they’re going to do before they even come in,” the Bournemouth star added.

Since Tyler Adams has candidly revealed his expectations of a new USMNT boss, let’s see what is the latest update regarding the US coaching job.

Latest updates on the USMNT coaching job, as Tyler Adams demands a quick hiring

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was the first manager to turn down the US Soccer’s offer for the USMNT coaching role. Now, the New Jersey native, Pellegrino Matarazzo has also turned down the US job. Rumors heavily linked Matarazzo to the USMNT, citing his equation with the German club Hoffenheim’s front office has turned sour. However, Matarazzo has snubbed the US suitors and will continue to coach Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. Meanwhile, former English coach Gareth Southgate is also on the USSF’s radar.

However, Southgate has not spoken about a new coaching job since leaving England’s office after the loss against Spain in the UEFA Euro final. Whoever the USSF is going to hire, Tyler Adams needs the hiring to be quick. “I don’t think we have a huge amount of time if everyone wants to focus on the goal is 2026 World Cup and we want the best result possible then you have to get someone who’s gotten results,” Adams said during the podcast.
