Ted Lasso fans collectively felt a sensation of emptiness after the show ‘officially’ marked its end with its final episode on May 31st  this year. However, fans never gave up hope. Many fans since the season finale have bombarded social media with potential season 4 scenarios and plotlines. Luckily for them, their beloved show’s director has dropped a humongous hint on the future of the show.

In a recent interview with a popular publication, Declan Lowney revealed that the show has ended; albeit temporarily. The talented director then went on to give a potential timeline for a return and also shared an interesting spinoff idea with the fans. Safe to say, netizens are elated since the reveal.

In a surprising statement, a crew member of Ted Lasso for the first time publicly spoke about the future plans of the show. Declan Lowney first confirmed that the show has not ended for good. “Everybody knew it was the end, but it’s also the end for now,” said Lowny to Awards Radar.

Lowney then confirmed that once the plan is ready, it will however take a couple of years at the very least for the execution. “It’s going to be two or three years before anything happens — if anything happens,” he said. The director then ended the conversation by dropping a bombshell spinoff idea. He hinted that Ted’s season finale move to Kansas can be one of the focal points of the spinoffs. “Then you’ve got Ted coaching a football league back in Kansas, so there is a potential spinoff there,” hinted the director.

Interestingly, this spin-off idea is miles different than what lead actor and co-creator Jason Sudeikis had hinted months before the Season Three Premier.

Even before Season Three was aired, the news was already out that this would be the final season of the show. Hence fans were clamoring on social media for more seasons; or a spinoff at the very least. Executive producer and lead actor Jaso Sudeikis was clearly overwhelmed with the love received and hence gave them respite by hinting at future spinoffs.

“This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell. The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet—that being Season 3—it’s flattering,” Sudeikis told Deadline. The actor then hinted that there are many supporting characters who have unfinished business at the end of the show. Hence he hinted that more stories can be said about them. “Yeah, I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks…to get to watch the further telling of these stories,” he said at the time.

Season Three concluded with Ted going back to Kansas to raise his son and Coach Beard tying the knot. However, the tales of the remaining AFC Richmond members in England seemed incomplete. While Rebecca stood on the edge of a possible new relationship; the unresolved love triangle involving Keeley, Roy, and Jamie still lingers on.
