Cristiano Ronaldo failed to even receive nominations for the 2023 Ballon d’Or and FIFA’s The Best awards. But he stole the show at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai. He won three separate awards that one night. The Globe Soccer Awards chose Ronaldo as the Middle East’s Best Player. Though Erling Haaland secured the Best Men’s Player prize, CR7 got the Fans’ Best Player of the Year award. Anyhow, it is the top goalscorer’s prize that has left CR7 flabbergasted. For, it is named after the legendary Diego Maradona, who inspired the likes of Lionel Messi to play the beautiful game.
In a recent interview after the gala in Dubai, Ronaldo revealed how proud he was to overtake the likes of Haaland to secure the top scorer’s prize. Furthermore, he revealed how the Maradona factor adds flavor to the win.

Regarding Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo thinks on the same lines as Messi
In a conversation with Record, the interviewer asked Cristiano Ronaldo how special was the fan favorite prize and Maradona Award for best goalscorer. “As I said today at the gala, these are two awards that I don’t have in my museum. And it makes me happy, especially the one for Maradona, who is no longer with us and was a player I always admired,” said Ronaldo. Besides confessing his admiration for the late Argentine legend, Ronaldo took to Instagram with a picture of him holding the Maradona Award.

Messi’s idolizing of Maradona, on the other hand, is historical. After catapulting Argentina to a third World Cup win, Leo wrote, the 1986 World Champion ‘Diego encouraged us from heaven.’ From inspiring Messi to enhancing Ronaldo’s cabinet in the CR7 museum, Diego Armando Maradona and his legacy live on! CR7, anyhow, has many more reasons to feel the Maradona Award was the best of the lot.

Why does the top scorer’s award matter the most for Ronaldo?
In the same interview, Cristiano Ronaldo remarked that awards such as FIFA’s The Best and Ballon d’Or are losing credibility. He said he rather values the Golden Boot because it is solely based on numbers. As Ronaldo puts it, nobody can take away the number of goals he has scored, and hence the Golden Boot remains the most valuable prize for him.
