Yes, the NWSL season is finally coming to an end. We expected some fireworks, with the Orlando Pride taking on the Washington Spirit in a high-profile match. But with no Trinity Rodman, there was only one winner. Not a dig at the Spirit by calling them a one-woman team, but Rodman brings in that extra flair which will cause problems. Finally, Orlando Pride won the NWSL Shield trophy in a dominating season. As for Dennis Rodman’s daughter, she lamented what could have been.

Jonatan Giraldez, head coach of the Spirit, detailed the injury status of Rodman in the latest episode of ‘Futbol W: Play-off Battle at the Top of the Table’ on the Futbol Americas podcast.

“Trinity, I was speaking to her last game. She is training, step by step, doing things with the team. I do not want to say anything for the next weekend because I don’t want to add any type of pressure,” noted Giraldez, in the interview. Moreover, with no initial reactions from Rodman, she lamented her injury with a cryptic post on Instagram.

In the post, she had a holographic picture of the human body, with a highlighted orange area pointing towards her back. The IG story had a caption, “One day you are young, and the next,” followed by the picture. It signifies her back injury, which she suffered against KC Current. Rodman suffered a back spasm injury which has kept her out for several weeks. With the NWSL shield gone, don’t worry. The playoffs are incoming and Giraldez wants her players to be 100 percent!

Giraldez continued in his podcast, “For me, the most important thing is being available, but 100% available. If you’re available but 60%, for me, it’s not enough, so you have to be 100%. Because you know, here play-offs are very-very important, so everyone must be ready and available as soon as possible.”

Right after the regular season, there are the playoffs. When comparing American soccer to Europe, you can see significant differences in the system. In Europe, the league determines the champion. Here, you have two trophies – the NWSL title and the Shield. In its history, only the North Carolina Courage won the NWSL title and the Shield. But, for this season, everyone’s money is on Orlando Pride to win the playoffs. But not if Trinity Rodman comes back to full fitness.

She can be devastating for any team, and with the knockout format in the playoffs, anything goes. You might see the 8th seeded team defeat the 1st seeded similar to the ones we saw in the NBA. Remember the famous Nuggets team’s win over the Seattle Supersonics? Anything can happen. We can’t wait for Trinity Rodman to be back. The entire complexion of the tournament changes when she returns.
