The game against the Washington Spirit and Kansas City Current became critical for the title challenge of the NWSL. With Orlando Pride flying high, both teams needed to step up to the plate. In the end, KC Current came away with a 3-0 victory to take home the plaudits. Yet, apart from the loss, Trinity Rodman’s injury became the headline maker. She suffered, according to head coach Jonatan Giráldez, a back injury that saw her taken off in a wheelchair.

She tried to walk it off, but the physios brought in a wheelchair and had to be taken away. Although she came to the bench in the final minutes of the game, the concerns in the Spirit camp tell otherwise. Notably, Rodman remains a crucial player on the side after scoring 8 goals in the NWSL. Thus, losing her will be a problem. With fans curious on the internet for injury updates, we have received two vital updates.

Jeff Kassouf, a leading writer for ESPN, posted an update on X stating, “Trinity Rodman goes off the field in a wheelchair in clear pain in Kansas City late in the match. Spirit trainers worked on Rodman’s back for a while. Hopefully not as serious as the pain seemed to be on the sideline.”

Likewise, Claire Watkins of Just Women’s Sports also gave an update regarding the injury. She captioned on X, “Rodman back on the bench with a pack on her lower back seems like a good sign they got the spasm to subside at least.”

Trinity Rodman’s back injury spasm causes concerns!

When examining the injury, it is important to note that a back spasm may occur because of any kind of strain or injury to the soft tissues in the spine, including muscles, tendons, or ligaments. This soft tissue injury typically heals enough within a week or two for the muscle spasms to stop. Yet, there are complications if otherwise.

Rodman could be out for six to eight weeks if it is a severe back spasm injury. They subside over time and proper rest could be the difference. Moreover, further examinations and evaluations will be conducted by the physios after the player reaches Washington. No matter what, the Washington Spirit would love to have Trinity Rodman as soon as possible.

The injury happened in the 75th minute when the player shielded the ball from the opposition player. Soon after, she felt something in her back and lay down on her stomach. The physios arrived on the pitch to see what transpired and had to get a wheelchair to carry her off. Hence, we await more reports regarding the injury of the talented player.
