For a decade, soccer fans have had an unsettled debate when it comes to picking between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite both securing decorated careers, fans love to draw comparisons between the two icons. And all to determine who’s the greatest player of all time. Critics and players are no different, with many picking their poison over the years. Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold is no stranger to the debate, picking La Pulga over CR7 earlier this year. However, it seems like Trent has turned over to the other side!

Alexander-Arnold was present with Manchester United icon Gary Neville on the latest episode of ‘The Overlap’. During a quick-fire round on the show, the Liverpool star was asked to select three players he would like to invite for dinner. Alexander-Arnold was quick to make his first two picks, with the defender selecting Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and Real Madrid icon Zinedine Zidane. However, when it came to his third pick, while fans expected him to go with Lionel Messi, Trent switched things around to go with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Earlier this year, the Liverpool star selected Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo while playing a game of Football Brackets. Thus, it’s strange to see the defender change his mind over such a short time. However, this isn’t the first time players have switched the pick in the GOAT debate over the years.

Trent Alexander-Arnold snubs Mohamed Salah to pick Cristiano Ronaldo

The Liverpool defender has built a great bond with his teammates over the years. Breaking through the ranks at Anfield, Alexander-Arnold has established himself as one of the key players for the club. One player who has been equally amazing for Jurgen Klopp’s side has been Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian winger has helped the team reach new heights with many fans considering him to be among the best to play for the club.

However, Trent Alexander-Arnold left fans stunned earlier in February while playing a game of football brackets. While asked to pick between fellow teammate Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo, the Englishman did not shy away from picking the Al Nassr captain. This has to come off as a surprise as Trent at times has openly backed the Liverpool ace amongst the best in the world. While this could set fans the wrong way, it seems like the pick was nothing but banter. Both Salah and Trent will look to put their best foot forward as Liverpool chase the league title!
