In a shocking turn of events, they delayed the match between Argentina and Brazil after a violent altercation arose between the fans. The incident ignited after Brazilian police confronted a group of Argentina supporters positioned behind the goal during Brazil’s national anthem. In an attempt to ease tensions, both teams approached the fans by crossing the advertising boards.

However, as the situation escalated beyond control, the Argentina players exited the field. Furthermore, Messi took charge, leading the team off the pitch and into the locker room. After the match, the skipper shared his thoughts about the incident. He conveyed, “We saw how they were hitting the people. It already happened in the Libertadores final. They were more focused on that than on the game. We went to the locker room because it was the best way to calm everything down. A tragedy could have happened.”

While highlighting that things could get more serious, he praised his side for the remarkable win. “This group continues to achieve historic things,” the 36-year-old concluded. Nevertheless, Messi isn’t pleased with the preceding events before the match. However, the close win will surely uplift his spirits.

Notably, Nicolas Otamendi’s header, assisted by Giovani Lo Celso’s corner, was enough for Argentina to clinch three points. Interestingly, with this win, La Albiceleste entered the history books, yet again!
