The search for a breakthrough season continues for Tottenham Hotspur. There hasn’t been a season since 2008 when the Londoners placed some silverware in the cabinet, only trying as far as to maintain their status as one of the Premier League’s top-six. But with the new season, Spurs will hit the restart button and make significant changes to their roster. In fact, for the first step, the club is being urged to consider the potential sale of Heung Min-Son and Richarlison, who are allegedly gaining interest from the Saudi Pro League.
In the latest episode of talkSPORT, Flav Bateman, an ardent Spurs fan and host of the Tottenham-based podcast, ‘The Fighting Cock’ was invited to discuss his favorite side’s transfer strategy ahead of the 2024/25 season. Bateman first highlighted Son’s future at the club: “I don’t think there’s a world where Tottenham entertain a bid unless it’s insane money which is not going to be for Heung Min-Son and you’re talking £80-£90m ($102-$115m) from Saudi Arabia.”
Daniel Levy and Co. are open to offloading Son in exchange for a million-dollar offer. Building on the speculations, Bateman was then asked if Richarlison, who has been heavily linked to leave this summer, would also be offloaded by Spurs to ‘cut their cost.‘ Interestingly, the YouTuber expressed his doubts, while heaping praise on the Brazilian’s quality. Bateman insisted that not many no. 9’s in the Premier League, who are scoring 10 goals in 10 games.

Yet, he claimed that the former Everton man could be shown the exit door alongside Son. So it seems that some tough decisions can be taken from Ange Postecoglou’s side. But even if these two names are sold, which players can fill in the No. 9 role?

Key transfer targets for Tottenham Hotspur to solve their attacking woes
While giving shocking transfer updates on Heung Min-Son and Richarlison, Flav Bateman urged Tottenham to go for rather an ‘upgrade.’ He took the names of Brentford star, Ivan Tony as well as Santiago Giménez from Feyenoord, which he considered a ‘gamble.’ On the other hand, Bateman also claimed that Tottenham may not go for strikers in the summer transfer market at all!

He insisted that in the upcoming season, Ange Postecoglou could go ditch the traditional No. 9 approach and implement a ‘fluid system‘, which would see players drop in as false No. 9. While selling Son would certainly come as a surprise, considering he netted 17 goals in PL last season, Richarlison’s place may be in danger. Whatever it may be, it remains to be seen what transfer decision Tottenham makes.
