The USWNT is home to a lot of soccer superstars. Although the fans and team will miss Mallory Swanson for the 2023 World Cup, other players can come in and perform. One of them is Alana Cook. During the national team’s friendly match against Ireland, the defender scored her first international goal on her 26th birthday. Hence, fans loved the moment and teammate Megan Rapinoe showcased her excitement too. 

Rapinoe dedicated an Instagram story to her teammate, as she couldn’t believe what happened. She also stated how it is one of the best moments she has witnessed in her career. Now that’s heavy praise from someone who has seen and done it all. 

Megan Rapinoe appreciates Alana Cook’s stunning goal

After initially Smith and Sanchez worked it around the corner, the ball defected to the path of Cook. From there, she launched a stunning effort toward the goal as the goalkeeper misjudged the flight of the ball. Hence, it became an incredible sight to behold as she received the perfect birthday gift on her 26th birthday. Thus, it looked great as the soccer player celebrated a sensational goal. 

Rapinoe took to Instagram and shared a story for her teammate. She captioned the story, “@Alana.Cook. Excuse Meeeeeeeee in the 15. Going in the top five moments of my whole career. Thank you. Lol JK Happy Birthday to you. I know that’s riiiiiight!” Thus, it is one of the greatest moments of Cook’s career.

The USWNT is busy playing friendlies ahead of the 2023 World Cup. They beat Ireland 1-0 in the friendly, which will surely boost their confidence. The team dealt with an issue after Swanson looks set to miss the World Cup with a knee injury. She led the USWNT to a victory during the SheBelieves Cup after scoring four goals. But they will miss her goals during the World Cup as USWNT hopes to replace her with a forward of similar stature.

Despite losing a key attacker, the USWNT can take consolation in the fact that they can shore up the defense to secure wins.

Despite Swanson’s absence, Cook will help the team to not concede goals. She plays for OL Reign and is among the team’s key defenders. Likewise, she continues to dominate the team games and makes last-ditch tackles to help her team win. Thus, winning a third consecutive World Cup is on everyone’s minds.
