It is no secret that Tom Cruise is a supporter of Scientology. The world-renowned actor has been vocal about his beliefs and has even gone as far as trying to make others join it. One of these famous personalities was his ex-wife Katie Holmes. Katie also became a believer but left it after her divorce from Tom.

One notable person that Cruise attempted to sway towards Scientology was his good friend, soccer legend David Beckham.

How Tom Cruise tried to temp David Beckham to join Scientology

A book by the name “A Billion Years: My Escape From a Life in the Highest Ranks of Scientology”, was published back in September 2022 by Mike Rinder. Mike himself was a former high-ranking Scientology member. In the book, Mike mentioned that the Church in San Jacinto, Calif once built a soccer field for Tom Cruise to show to David and temp him to join.

Mike wrote in his book, “A full-time caretaker was appointed from the Gold staff … It was built for one purpose only: so Tom Cruise could woo his friend David to come to Gold. It never happened.” The attempt to “woo” David Beckham into Scientology was ultimately unsuccessful.

Scientology is a controversial topic and many people are turned off by the concept of it. The soccer star has always stayed away from any kind of controversy. Therefore, it is not surprising that he did not join the cult, despite Tom Cruise’s efforts.

Another celebrity who turned down Tom’s offer

It looks like David Beckham wasn’t the only one to turn down Tom Cruise’s offer of joining Scientology. Canadian-American actor, Seth Rogen recently shared a story about the time he and Judd Apatow were approached by Tom Cruise to join Scientology.

Seth Rogen shared his experience by saying, “Thank God Judd was like, ‘I think we’re good, let’s just talk about movies and stuff.’ Woof. Dodged that bullet”. It is pretty clear Seth was happy with not being involved with Tom Cruise and his invitation to Scientology.
