Will Tom Brady's NFL duties derail Ryan Reynolds' Wrexham dreams? Whose side are you on?

Thanks to Wrexham’s promotion to the EFL League One, it can face the former Premier League side and the English heavyweight, Birmingham City FC. What’s so special about Birmingham? Well, the Birmingham-Wrexham tie could pit two of America’s favorite A-listers against each other. Three years after Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought Wrexham, Patriots legend Tom Brady also ventured into soccer team ownership, buying a piece in Birmingham City. Interestingly, Rob and Ryan have recently vowed to share the gallery with Brady during Wrexham-Birmingham games.

Wrexham first faces Birmingham in an away game on September on September 16 and then they host Tom Brady’s side on January 24, 2025. However, the 7x Super Bowl champion’s feature in these games remains ambiguous due to his new responsibility as an NFL analyst. Replying to a post about Brady’s arrival for League One games on Wrexham’s Fearless in Devotion podcast’s X page, a user close to the club said the veteran QB might ditch Wrexham games. “Both matches will be the day before he’s calling NFL games, not sure how he’ll be able to be over there the day before, especially the NFC Championship game in January,” the user said.

We all know that Tom Brady inked a broadcast deal with FOX Sports to become its lead NFL analyst. Brady, who completed the deal last month, added that he will start his FOX stint in the fall of this year. The first Wrexham-Birmingham game kicks off around the same time, making it difficult for Brady to link up with Ryan Reynolds and McElhenney. When Wrexham hosts Brady’s club, the latter will have the busiest of times, as the AFC and NFC Championship games take place on January 26. So there’s a chance in hell for the veteran QB to grace the Stok Cae Ras.

Notably, this is the second time we have seen a Brady-Reynolds link-up getting canceled. What happened the first time? Let’s see.

When EFL thwarted Ryan Reynolds and Tom Brady’s attempts to hold games in the US

Both Wrexham and Birmingham’s ownership group suggested shifting their EFL games to the US. Birmingham has immense clout in the US as Tom Brady’s soccer project. The Red Dragons, on the other hand, have become an American fan favorite, thanks to their Hollywood owners and consistent US tours. The owners expected to attract a crowd larger than Birmingham’s home St. Andrew’s 29,000 capacity if they played in the US.

Have an interesting take?

However, the EFL nipped their attempts in the bud, insisting no league games should ever take place abroad. It would have been EFL history if Brady’s side locked horns with Ryan Reynolds’ team in the US. Seems like only a routine pre-season friendly is the sole solution for the American owners to cross paths in the stands. Anyhow, there is still a minimal chance for Brady to join the Hollywood duo in EFL games if there is no roadblock to his broadcast stint with FOX.
