While Rodman has been given the opportunity to start both games, Megan Rapinoe has been utilized as a late substitute. In the first match, she was brought on in the 63rd minute, and against the Netherlands, she did not even get a chance to step onto the field. In their tournament opener against Vietnam, the USWNT had a perfect start, defeating their opponents 3-0.

However, their second game saw them face a formidable opponent in the form of the Netherlands, resulting in a draw. For Rodman, the daughter of NBA legend Dennis Rodman, achieving a spot on the scoresheet has proven to be elusive so far. Despite this, she has chosen to view her performance in a positive light, thanks to the wise words of Rapinoe.

Days before this crucial match, Rodman sat down for an interview with Men in Blazers, where she shared the invaluable advice she had received from both veteran teammates Rapinoe and Kelley O’Hara. “Failure is always a part of your journey towards success, and to be the best of the best, you have to be willing to experience failure,” she said.

The 21-year-old further added, “Rapinoe and Kelly, both of them kind of said the same thing in different ways. And then same for not straying away from who you are. There’s tactics, there’s gameplans, there’s principles but you’re here for a reason. You are here for your talent and you have to utilize it”.

It is good to see as a young player venturing into her first World Cup, she understands the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, even when faced with adversity. As the tournament progresses, Rodman will undoubtedly carry this advice with her. Till then let’s look at what went down at the Wellington regional Stadium between USWNT and Netherlands.

USWNTs sloppy performance against the Netherlands

The match between USWNT and Netherlands was highly anticipated, as both teams are considered powerhouses in women’s soccer. The game resulted in a 1-1 draw, showcasing the level of competition between the two teams. However, it was evident that USWNT struggled to convert their numerous chances into goals.

With a total of 18 shots compared to Netherlands’ 5, USWNT’s inability to secure a win was disappointing. Another aspect worth noting is the minimal use of substitutions by coach Vlatko Andonovski throughout the match. He only made one substitution, bringing on Rose Lavelle to replace Savannah DeMelo. This decision proved significant as Lavelle played a crucial role in assisting Lindsey Horan to score USWNT’s only goal of the match.

This has raised questions against Andonovski if more substitution should have been used. Nevertheless, despite the missed opportunities and lack of substitutions, USWNT remains at the top of Group E and holds a strong position to advance to the next round.
