“Don’t you know that those who run in the stadium all run, but only one takes the prize?” began Neymar Sr. in his heartfelt letter to his superstar son, who is preparing for a very special day in his life. For those unaware, today is Neyday! Still need a clue? Well, Neymar Jr. is set to make an emphatic return to the pitch for Al Hilal after a year-long absence. This moment signifies joy and relief not just for the Brazilian forward and his fans, but especially for his dad, who decided to take it a step further by penning a special message before Ney’s return.
All of this emotional yet cheerful pouring came on Instagram, sharing a picture of the 32-year-old whilst doing his iconic celebration. Further continuing the lengthy caption with his poem, Neymar Sr. added, “Run in such a way that you reach it. And everyone who strives abstains from everything; they do it to obtain a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible one. For this is how I run, not like the uncertain thing; this is how I fight, not like beating the air. But I subdue my body and bring it into subjection, lest by preaching to others I myself should somehow be reproved.”
Sadly, Neymar Jr. has been quite susceptible to injuries over the past few years. However, despite these significant setbacks that have marred a remarkable growth in his illustrious career, his father wants him to bring back his true lost self. Having admitted he missed his son kicking the ball on the pitch, the senior Neymar wants the skillful winger to forget the past and move forward with his chin up in the air to showcase what he’s made of.
