Manchester United, under Erik ten Hag, has been having a bumpy ride this season. The Red Devils’ last Premier League outing is a testament to that. Bournemouth tore United to shreds, netting three goals without reply in the last meeting. The club’s back-to-back lackluster shows prompted ex-soccer star Danny Murphy to demand that ten Hag be sacked in his Daily Mail column. Though the vitriol against Erik ten Hag is predominant, MUFC has not yet thought of anything close to sacking him. However, that won’t likely be the case if United fails to finish the league inside the top four. If that is the case, who are ten Hag’s potential replacements?
Quite a few successful soccer managers are currently without a job, awaiting their next upcoming managerial stint. At this juncture, let us examine three candidates who are worthy of donning the gaffer’s hat at Old Trafford.

Here are three coaches who boast an impressive resume and years of experience that make them fitting candidates for Manchester United’s managerial role.
1. Antonio Conte
Antonio Conte shot to superstardom during his days with the Serie A giant, Juventus. Conte joined Juventus in 2011 and left in 2014. During such a short tenure, Conte helped Juventus win three consecutive Serie A titles and two Italian Supercup titles. Later, Conte took his talents to Chelsea and powered their Premier League triumph in the 2017-18 season. Next, he won another Serie A, this time with Inter Milan in 2021. After that, Conte joined Tottenham Hotspur and left the club in 2023 without seeing great success. Conte has not landed a job since then and indeed is a fitting boss MUFC could rely on.
2. Graham Potter
The former Chelsea manager, Graham Potter does not boast as impressive a CV as Antonio Conte. However, Potter has a vast experience in the Premier League with more than 100 matches to his tally. Out of his Premier League stint, his days at Brighton & Hove Albion are the most remarkable. The underdog club achieved their best top-flight finish during the Potter era. Moreover, Potter also powered Brighton’s historic wins against PL giants such as Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal. Potter too has not found a new club since he left Chelsea this year.

3. Zinedine Zidane
Zinedine Zidane is a classic example of a legendary player turning into a legendary manager. The Frenchman has only managed Real Madrid. But his days at the Spanish capital are immortalized in the soccer lore. During his 5 years with the Blancos, Zidane bagged a whopping 11 titles, including three consecutive UEFA Champions League trophies.

The 51-year-old, unlike the aforementioned coaches, was not dismissed by his club. He left Madrid in 2021 and is now in a self-imposed hiatus from coaching. If Zidane were to return to coaching, the gates of Old Trafford should indeed be open to the legend.
