Ryan Reynolds is without a doubt one of the most likable people in the world. He is adored by his fans, whether for his roles in movies or for his quick wit and humor sense. The Hollywood star is turning into a fan favorite in the soccer community, too. This is since he became the owner of the Welsh soccer club, Wrexham AFC in 2020.

With his wit and sarcasm, Reynolds just makes everything even more special. The faux feud that Reynolds has been having with fellow Hollywood star Hugh Jackman is one of the best examples of this. The two Hollywood A-listers have often joked and vied for attention online, in what appears to be a series of friendly jabs at one another.

However, prior to Ryan Reynolds’ acquisition of the Welsh soccer club, Hugh Jackman was also a familiar face with the sport.

Hugh Jackman once rooted for this soccer team

The Wolverine star was once a supporter of a soccer team with a value of approximately $575 million. This team is none other than the Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union. The actor famously threw his support behind the MLS side when they went head-to-head against Sporting KC  in June 2011.

Hugh Jackman was present in the stands as he cheered for the Unions. However, despite his full support, the match ended in a goalless draw. Jackman since then has kept his soccer ties under the surface, that is until recently. The Wolverine star is now making waves amongst those who follow the beautiful game after he threatened to join a rival team of Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham AFC.

Hugh Jackman planning to become Ryan Reynolds’ rival

Recently, Hugh Jackman made a bold statement during an appearance on the BBC’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg. He threatened to join a rival team and even challenged Ryan Reynolds to “stick it“.

“I was like, ‘You know what? This whole thing of outsiders coming in buying football teams, it feels a little easy,'” Jackman said. “So I’ve decided to go one step further: I’m actually going to try out for the team”. “I think if I really want to stick it to Ryan Reynolds, then if Wrexham get to play Norwich, because obviously there’s a different level here, I think it’d be best if I was heading in the winner”.

The actor spoke of his desire to take co-ownership of a rival club that was offered after Reynolds became the owner of Wrexham AFC. Of course, this banter between the two frenemies could just be their way of maintaining a healthy dynamic.
