Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are two of the most dominant forces in soccer. The debate between who may be better is a never-ending one, as there’s no definite answer to it. However, it seems that one of CR7’s former teammates has an interesting take on the debate.

There are only a few soccer stars who have had the luxury to play with either of these legendary players. This pleasure has certainly been enjoyed by Manchester United midfielder, Casemiro. Interestingly, the Brazilian recently heaped praise on La Pulga despite having played alongside CR7.

It really comes as a surprise when players who play alongside Ronaldo have immense praise for Messi. Subsequently, Casemiro also surprised fans, as he recently spoke highly of the Argentinian superstar. While speaking to Placer, he specifically revealed three players to be outstanding among all others.

“Lionel Messi left his mark. You can’t deny it. He was always a rival, with Barcelona and with Argentina, there was no way to escape it. But those who like football, like Messi. It was a pleasure playing against him. He is a guy who does not need comment. You just have to admire him,” he said. Indeed, these are quite heartwarming words from the 31-year-old.

Casemiro added, “I had the pleasure of seeing Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar, who are the three greatest of my generation. I saw [the Brazilian] Ronaldo, I saw Zinedine Zidane but, without a doubt, these three are the best of my time. I never played against Cristiano, thank God! He gave me many titles and victories.” While praising his former Real Madrid teammate and manager, Zidane, the Brazilian also spoke highly of his country’s stars, Ronaldo Nazario and Neymar.

Certainly, these are some top-notch names in the soccer world taken by Casemiro. However, it’s quite surprising to see him praise Messi, despite winning countless accolades with Ronaldo.

Enjoyed four years of excellence alongside Cristiano Ronaldo

After joining Real Madrid in 2013, Casemiro saw a massive rise in his career. The midfielder became an integral part of Los Blancos and won many accolades. His stint, however, also came with a one-year loan spell back to Porto. With Ronaldo up front, the Brazilian was able to win five Champions Leagues with Madrid.

Unfortunately, Casemiro’s time with the Portuguese star came to an end after the five-time Ballon d’Or winner went on a voyage to Italy and England. However, the holding midfielder soon reunited with the 38-year-old at Manchester United in 2022. Yet that reunion also didn’t last long after Ronaldo went to the Middle East.
