Did Canada really pull the wool over everyone’s eyes? It was just days ago that they faced a 6-point deduction and suspension of guilty coaches over the drone spying scandal in the Paris Olympics. While it raised doubts over their progression to the knockout stages, Bev Priestman’s side did the unthinkable and managed to qualify for the quarterfinals. However, USWNT legend Ali Krieger believes that Canada ‘should have been on their way home’ instead.

“This is ridiculous, I’m sad for the players,” said the former Gotham FC forward while speaking with Dan Thomas on ESPN FC. She insisted that CanXNT stars weren’t at fault, considering they all worked throughout their lives to represent their nation in the prestigious tournament. “My heart goes out to them but obviously, this is unfair. They should not be there and should have been on their way home,” argued Krieger.

Apparently, for the former US international, deducting points isn’t enough to justify their wrongdoing as the concerned authorities should have taken a bold call. “This is a moment where FIFA and the Olympic Committee could have made a real, big statement and that was a missed opportunity on their behalf,” she added

“I don’t think the 6-point deduction is good enough and you have other teams who have worked just as hard, if not harder, who haven’t cheated, now going home and that is really disruptive to the tournament and to our sport and to the other teams who are in the Olympics as well,” concluded Krieger.

Notably, a similar 2-1 victory over New Zealand and France, and a narrow win over Colombia was enough for Canada to make it the next round. Regardless, it is quite ironic that Krieger feels that Preistman and Co. should have left France too early, given that her own country’s star player made an interesting revelation that brings the US Soccer Federation into the spotlight.

Ali Krieger shall mind her harsh verdict on Canada as USWNT and USMNT face an awkward question!

Earlier, Tyler Adams made an eyebrow-raising revelation while commenting on Canada’s spying controversy. Speaking on ‘The Cooligans‘ podcast, the defender clearly accepted that every team applies ‘cheating‘ tactics in some capacity.

“I don’t know about drones and sh*t, that seems a little bit crazy. There are all these people when you’re training in stadiums the day before the game, someone would be acting like a worker and [in reality are] working for a different federation,” said the Bournemouth star, who was positive that it happens in the beautiful game on regular basis.

The shocking revelation caught Alexi Lalas’ attention as the soccer icon posed a question saying, “Interesting. So does the USMNT and USWNT do it?”

The response will likely remain indirect, but Adams’ revelation raises suspicions about whether the USA’s MNT and WNT have engaged in espionage or still do so today. With CanXNT already under scrutiny, Adams might have suggested that top authorities should start investigating other teams as well.
