The pre-season U.S. Tour for Wrexham AFC was quite remarkable. While it came with a few ups and downs, overall, American fans were able to enjoy the presence of the Welsh club in the country. In fact, they received quite an extraordinary reception, which even the club’s promotion hero, Ben Foster, couldn’t believe.
Of course, for Foster, it is something that he must have seen over the course of the 15 years he spent in the Premier League. Yet according to the England star, he didn’t expect the kind of commendation Wrexham got in the U.S.

The growing fandom of Wrexham is a testament to the club’s evolving popularity. But it surely left Foster startled when he saw the crowd that came to support the Red Dragons during their U.S. tour. Recently, the goalkeeper sat down for a podcast interview with Men in Blazers, where he revealed his experience with American fans.
Before their fixture against Chelsea, which they lost 5-0, Foster revealed everyone must have come in support of the Premier League side. However, that’s when all the players were surprised. “The game kicks off, and I’m not overexaggerating when I say this; about 35-40% of fans in the stadium had a red jersey on. They were singing Wrexham songs, were singing Paul Mullin and Ben Foster in goal, and all this kind of stuff, and it’s just, wow, that was the moment.”
When asked how he understood it the 40-year-old replied: “I played football for 20 years and I’ve never seen anything, like this is batsh*t. Honestly, God knows how some of the young lads are processing it. 19 years old; they must think this is normal. They’re gonna, you know, if they don’t make it at Wrex and they go and sign for Hereford or Stockport or something they ain’t never seen this again.” Apparently, the promotion hero couldn’t process such reception from the fans.

Indeed, it’s quite remarkable to hear how the American fans left all the Wrexham players amazed with the reception, especially Foster. However, Foster must be focusing on the upcoming season and leading the team to another championship.
Wrexham gearing up for the new campaign
Ryan Reynolds’s side will play the opening fixture against MK Dons tomorrow. However, they will be coming in without Paul Mullin, whose injury came from a collision with Manchester United’s goalkeeper, Nathan Bishop, putting him out of action for two months.

Nonetheless, the team remains confident and undeterred. To sustain a positive mindset within the squad, Foster’s leadership qualities will play a crucial role. The Cycling GK will be looking to play an important role in the absence of their talisman. After all, a strong mentality is essential to keeping up their promotion aspirations.
