The trajectory of Wrexham AFC has been on an upward trend since 2020. This has been thanks to the surprising Hollywood takeover by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Wrexham saw a huge surprise this year when English goalkeeper Ben Foster came out of retirement to play for them.

Following this, the rest is history as Foster played a pivotal role in helping them secure the National League title. It had been 12 years prior since Foster last tasted success, winning the English Cup with Birmingham in 2012. Ever since joining the Welsh side, Foster has been full of praise for the owners. And all this didn’t stop in a recent podcast where Foster revealed some inside details of their ownership.

The owners, Ryan and Rob have turned Wrexham’s fortunes around since taking the reins. Foster, who was there to see it all unfold, admitted that the owners’ ability to manage the team and sign players efficiently has been admirable. The 40-year-old keeper sang the praises of the duo saying, “I’ve never seen owners like it in my life, I promise you. I’ve never seen two guys that just want to do it properly”.

Furthermore, Foster revealed that the Hollywood duo also has the support of someone with Premier League experience, Sean Harvey, who has been the driving force behind some of the decisions the club has taken. He praised the “sensible” attitude of Harvey, referring to him as, “anybody they (Ryan & Rob) want to sign, he makes sure he (Harvey) finds out about”.

According to Foster, the trio doesn’t like to pay outrageous fees for signing players. Instead, they’ve focused on doing things the proper way by signing fewer players as Foster referred to as, “real quality players that can actually improve the squad”. All this got followed by further praises for the ownership, he added, “So they’ve done it properly, honestly, and they will do it properly”.

Much of Wrexham’s success is of course down to the management of the club, as well as the other backroom staff and players. But it’s evident that the influence of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney has had a huge bearing on Ben Foster.
