Wrexham AFC has seen a drastic change in fortunes. The club has undergone an extraordinary turnaround under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Despite facing the risk of extinction, the club managed to defy the odds and achieve a remarkable feat by becoming the champions of the National League in the 2022–23 season.

The club gave their heart and soul to win whatever they could. While preparations on the pitch kept the players busy, there was something else off the pitch that seemed to have caught attention. Listening to their superstitious instincts, the owners set a bizarre rule, which they eventually broke in later matches of the season.

Given both Reynolds and McElhenney’s professions, the club has quite a Hollywood connection. It is obvious that their fellow celebrity friends would want to come to see matches. But because of their superstitious gut, the owners actually denied their entry into the stadium in order to avoid potential losses. However, that rule was eventually broken by them, as a host of Hollywood A-listers arrived to see Wrexham in action.

This comes after their latest installment of the RobRyanRed-Wrexham podcast. Reflecting on their disappointment at Wembley a year ago, McElhenney said, “We didn’t stick to it Ryan. After we lost at Wembley in the FA Trophy final, we decided on no more celebrities because they were a bad luck charm.”

“But I guess we don’t have to worry about that anymore!” he added. Soon Reynolds intervened, “Will [Ferrell] saw a great game, I know that. Emma [Corrin] saw an amazing match as well.” McElhenney also counted a few names on his fingers, saying, “Glenn [Howerton], Charlie [Day], and Kaitlin [Olson].”

Reynolds also acknowledged Glenn, Charlie, and Kaitlin witnessing ‘great’ matches. “Yeah. Then, of course, there was Paul [Rudd] and Joe Russo, they saw just the most incredible thing,” he added. The rule was eventually broken, yet it is surprising to hear about it from the owner’s mouth. Either way, it may seem like no problem for them to call their fellow celebrity friends. In fact, Reynolds is eager to have Taylor Swift and Beyonce at the Wrexham stadium.

After concluding the season, Reynolds and McElhenney have exciting plans for utilizing the Racecourse Ground. Similar to other soccer clubs, Wrexham AFC will host a music concert featuring the renowned band, Kings of Leon. The band is scheduled to perform two concerts in Wrexham on May 27–28.

However, the owners have even grander aspirations and envision top pop stars like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé gracing the venue. Both, on Fearless in Devotion podcast, expressed their hopes of attracting these iconic singers to stage concerts at their stadium in the future. “We’re going to need some more seats, Rob,” Reynolds laughed. “They play the biggest of the big stadiums.”
