It has been months since Gerard Pique announced his retirement from soccer. The defender is now living his days as an astute businessman. In the past few months, he has started many ventures, including a unique soccer league called the Kings League.

His retirement came as a shock to the whole soccer world. The Spaniard ended his 14-year career at Barcelona. While he still holds the club in high regard, he recently took a dig at his ex-president, Joan Laporta.

Barcelona is currently going through a series of changes. The club is currently struggling both financially and sportingly. While they have managed to get on the good books by winning La Liga, things are still off at the club. Following the exit of Pique, the Blaugrana recently forced the departures of the club’s sacred cows, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

While they may have received a proper farewell, the former Barcelona star has not taken well their exit. In a recent Kings League talk show, he slammed the Barca president, Joan Laporte. He said, “We have left and they still have the same problem. In theory we were the ones responsible for the financial issues with our salaries. Now we are not there and they cannot register either. Who else has to go?”

Pique says that even after the departures of Busquets, Alba, and himself, the club is in a deep financial crisis. Not only are they having difficulties registering players, but they also haven’t paid their salaries. It indeed poses a big problem for the club. Speaking of salaries, Pique has yet to receive $85 million in salaries, which he gave up.

The salary that Pique has earned at Camp Nou has also been controversial. His contract was due to expire on June 30, 2024. Even after his retirement, the player is owed a salary of over $85 million. This is an enormous sum, and given Barca’s current economic situation, it is rather impossible for the club to pay his salary.

There was a possibility that Piqué would reach out to the club to discuss the terms of his departure. However, it appears unlikely that he will receive the full amount owed to him. Nevertheless, negotiations will take place to restructure the terms of the payment.
