No three-peat and an early exit from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. It hasn’t been the year the USWNT expected it to be. Since last week, the 4X World Champions have been garnering criticism from the soccer fraternity. While it has been a few days since their egress from the prestigious tournament, the blame game continues.

Among the plethora of critiques on social media, former U.S. President Donald Trump also slammed Megan Rapinoe. However, now, one of the USWNT’s rival star players has eviscerated the whole team for being overconfident.

Rival star annihilates USWNT for being overconfident

The USWNT didn’t keep their best foot forward at the beginning of the tournament. While they may have won the first easy fixture, the later three matches against the Netherlands, Portugal, and Sweden were disappointing. Interestingly, after Vlatko Andonovski’s side got out of the World Cup, Dutch star Lineth Beerensteyn was quite happy.

Ahead of her quarterfinal match against Spain, the forward slammed the American ladies for being cocky. “From the first moment I heard they were out, I was just like, ‘Yes! Bye!,” she said, as per ESPN. “From the start of the tournament, they had really big mouths and were already talking about the final. I was thinking you first have to show it on the pitch before you talk.”

“I’m not being rude in that way, I still have a lot of respect for them, but now they’re out of the tournament, and for me, it’s a relief, and for them, it’s something they will have to take with them in the future,” said the Juventus forward. “Don’t start to talk about something that is far away. I hope they will learn from that,” she added.

Beerensteyn hopes that the 2019 Champions have learned their lesson and that their exit may humble them. Indeed, these were quite cut-throat words from the Dutch star. Likewise, former U.S. President Donald Trump also cut to the core while speaking for Megan Rapinoe.

Donald Trump condemned Megan Rapinoe

After the USWNT’s elimination from the World Cup, Rapinoe received unforeseen criticism from ex-President Donald Trump. He described his nation’s exit from the competition as ‘shocking and totally unexpected’. Mr. Trump also swiftly made a sly remark directed at the present US President as well.

While highlighting Rapinoe’s crucial penalty miss against Sweden, he wrote, “Nice shot Megan, the USA is going to Hell!!! MAGA.” Undoubtedly, the conclusion of this World Cup campaign was rather gloomy for the United States. For now, the whole team must be looking to reflect on their poor World Cup exit.
