Neymar shocked the world after his move from Paris Saint-Germain to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. The move will reportedly see Neymar earn $418 million, while a clause in his contract even states that he earns $546,000 per social media post that promotes Saudi Arabia. But, according to a former Al Hilal manager Rogerio Micale, Neymar’s move to Saudi Arabia could see him etch his name in the country’s history books. Not only that, the manager also revealed how Saudi officials “triple” the money on offer just before games.

Micale coached Al Hilal in 2021 and also managed Brazil in their gold medal victory at the 2016 Olympics held in Brazil itself. Having coached Neymar at the 2016 Olympics, Micale has now spoken about the Brazilian star’s potential impact in Saudi Arabia. The coach also discussed how Saudi Arabia functions from a soccer standpoint.

For Rogerio Micale, it was a short spell in Saudi Arabia. The Brazilian coach was manager of Al Hilal in 2021, with his stint ending in the same season. Speaking in a conversation with ESPN Brazil, Micale said, “The president is very active and acts as a link between the club and the prince. In important games, they even triple the amount of money in the dressing room that was stipulated before. They also like to give gold watches and pens as gifts to the players.”

Further explaining the impact Neymar could have and suggesting he could become a “great idol”, Micale said, “Neymar has a lot to offer because he is only 31 years old. The impact of his arrival is huge, he is the biggest name in the Saudi League. The fans expect something very big from him, with performances like he always has. He could become a great idol, but If things don’t happen, it will be a huge pressure.”
This comes ahead of Neymar’s expected debut for Al Hilal. The Brazilian forward was out injured after sustaining an ankle injury in February 2023 whilst at PSG. Al Hilal play Al Riyadh later tonight in the SPL, as not just Al Hilal fans but also all of Saudi Arabia will be expectant to watch Neymar on his debut.
Meanwhile, for the Brazilian soccer star, it was a week to remember. Neymar broke Brazil legend Pele’s goal-scoring record scoring his 78th and 79th goals for his home country.

Pele, who was widely regarded as Brazil’s greatest-ever player, succumbed to cancer in December 2022. But his foundation was quick to congratulate Neymar on his achievement as well.
