Soccer can be a pretty thankless sport at times. Soccer fans can be very fickle as well. If the results are good and the team is going strong they’ll back you and love you. But if the results go south, you can expect a lot of stick. Speaking of, Cristiano Ronaldo is someone to take as an example. Recently, Mexican side Club America’s star midfielder Alvaro Fidalgo chimed in on the same.

Sometimes players also get criticism despite winning, as fans are also hyper-critical about their team’s players and their performances. That’s even if you’re Cristiano Ronaldo. And it’s been the same case for the Mexican side recently.

Club America beat Rayos del Necaxa 3-2 at the Estadio Azteca Stadium yesterday in Liga MX. However, two of their players, namely, Miguel Layun and Emilio Lara were booed by their home fans. Nevertheless, Club America midfielder Alvaro Fidalgo spoke out about his fellow teammates being booed, and even compared it to soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite Ronaldo playing for SPL club Al Nassr now, speaking about the incident and throwing a bit of light on the subject, Fidalgo said, “I’ve been going to the Bernabeu, as a fan, since I was 12, 13, 14 years old. As a fan and they booed many times or whistled Cristiano Ronaldo, and they’re not going to boo us; we’re nobody, we’re normal players, so it’s normal.”

These comments come as no surprise. The Madridistas who don the colors of Real Madrid under the lights at the Bernabeu can be some of the most intense and fervent fans in all of soccer. And if Los Blancos fans can boo arguably one of their greats in CR7, it can happen to any player.

Fidalgo suggests that criticism is normal in soccer

Fidalgo is no stranger to the rigors of soccer in Spain after playing for Oviedo and Sporting Gijon’s youth sides and spending a small part of his career in the Real Madrid youth setup as well.

The Club America star player, also empathized with fans and reflected on the fact that these things happen in the world of soccer. Further elaborating on what it’s like from the fans’ standpoint, Fidalgo added, “In the end, I also understand that people are tired, they come from many failures in many years, so in the end it is understandable.”

While suggesting that winning is paramount, Fidalgo further said, “We have to try to change that by winning games, winning titles, but it’s normal. It is also understandable.”

“It happened to me the other day. I accept everyone’s criticisms, everyone has their own opinion, just like me when I watch soccer.” “It is rare when other things happen, that are no longer criticisms, not only with me, but with people I love”, he added.

It’s been four games into the new Liga MX season for Club America and the Mexican club finds themselves in 6th place in the table with 7 points. So Fidalgo and his teammates will surely be looking to turn things around. And perhaps, his comments about even Cristiano Ronaldo getting booed will give his teammates some solace.
