“There Won’t Be Another Chance” – Manchester United Players Forced to Watch Liverpool’s Celebrations and Threatened to Downgrade to Reserves After 7–0 Loss

Manchester United suffered a humiliating defeat at Anfield against their fierce rivals, Liverpool on Sunday. Liverpool thrashed Red Devils 7-0, scoring six goals in the second half. They ripped up United’s defense with a dominant display. The humiliation resulted in retaliation from the United boss Erik ten Hag who reprimanded the players. 

Ten Hag also warned the players of further consequences if such humiliation happened again. It reminded Old Trafford fans of the famous hairdryer treatment of the legendary coach Sir Alex Ferguson. It was not the first time Ten Hag punished his players similarly. The Dutchman is here to mean business and wants players to follow the strict principles he has laid down. The United boss used a unique method to convey his disappointment to the players and motivate them ahead of their busy fixture list.

Ten Hag made Manchester United players listen to Liverpool’s celebrations

Immediately after the 7-0 thrashing, Ten Hag went into the United players in the dressing room. He asked them to sit silently and made them listen to the wild celebrations of the Liverpool players and the fans in Anfield. The coach was furious at the players for their display. He wants the player to take motivation from this punishment, so they never give up and repeat this in the future. 

It was definitely not a proud moment for superstars such as Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Raphael Varane, Marcus Rashford, and others to listen to the jubilant celebrations of the rivals. The coach didn’t stop there. He slammed the players and told them they were lucky to be on the team bus instead of traveling with the fuming fans back home. 

Ten Hag let the players know his frustration next day before the training session and sent a warning message. A United source said, “Ten Hag was obviously furious and told them they were lucky to be getting on the team bus back to Old Trafford and not made to travel back with the fans. He warned them all that if anything like that happens again, there won’t be another chance for them and they’ll be put in the Under-21s.”

The United team can rely on a tested approach set by the boss to relieve their burdens and set their sights on the future.

What next for United players?

The United boss hired sports psychologist Rainier Koers a few months back. Erik ten Hag wants the players to have more sessions with Koers now after the Liverpool humiliation. The Dutchman knows the importance of the mental aspect of the game.
