In soccer, there are no bounds of creativity when it comes to producing unique goal celebrations. Of course, players certainly have the right to celebrate in their own way, and they deserve that moment. However, when Luis Suarez scored a crucial goal for Inter Miami vs Atlanta—his first-ever MLS playoff goal, mind you—the Uruguayan couldn’t have come up with the worst celebration in the eyes of ardent fans!
Well, before we dig into the roasting of Lionel Messi’s best friend, let’s try to set the scene. As the Herons were taking on the Five Stripes in Chase Stadium for their MLS playoffs clash, both sides kicked off with the match. Interestingly, within 2 minutes, the hosts were able to showcase their dominant side as Luis Suarez stepped up on occasion like he had been doing for the whole season.
A sloppy defensive error saw Diego Gomez sneak the ball into the opposition’s penalty box, before he played a 1-2-1 pass with Jordi Alba, only to leave for El Pistolero to pick up, who took a shot from his inside sole and break the deadlock for Tata Martino and Co. While English commentators Jake Zlvin and Taylor Twellman were shouting on the cheeky strike, Suarez and teammates were smiling and celebrating the lead.

However, it was after a couple of minutes, when all the players were returning back to their normal positions, Suarez decided to do ‘The Griddy Dance’ move before the re-kick-off. For those unaware, it basically features heel-tapping steps combined with rhythmic arm swings. This move was invented in 2018 by Allen Davis, a high school football player from Louisiana, who was known by friends as “Lil Griddy.” It gained widespread popularity on TikTok in 2019.
Since then, it has become no less than an internet celebration with even revered athletes across all sports doing this celebration. While Suarez did become the latest soccer player to instill this celebration, the only problem was that he didn’t do it correctly. This became a subject of discussion on the internet, leaving the former Barcelona man a laughingstock.
Luis Suarez gets ridiculed for doing an unexpected ‘Griddy dance’ after scoring for Inter Miami
Of course, the clip had to make the internet with the speed of light, forcing netizens across X, formerly Twitter, to take a sly jibe at the iconic Liverpool man.
Though one can give Suarez one for an effort, the only problem is he didn’t do it correctly, or shall we say the worst attempt to do this skillful dance. On top of that, fans aren’t going easy on him even though he did for the first time.

Typically, after scoring a goal, we have seen Luis Suarez celebrate his goal with his iconic ‘El Pistolero’ celebration, where he makes a gesture of a gun and kisses his thumb and two fingers before signaling it in the air. However, seeing him do the Griddy dance was totally unexpected for all the fans.

Let’s remind you something. Guess who did the same ‘Griddy dance’ celebration as Suarez. None other than USMNT forward Christian Pulisic. So, is it safe to say that what the Uruguayan did was actually a Pulisic Griddy dance? This netizen thinks so!

A+ for the goal but surely a C- for the celebration. We know it’s fun and exciting to try something unique. Like, Lionel Messi, who had been doing some Marvel-themed celebrations earlier. But we believe Suarez should have practiced it quite well at least.
