Cristiano Ronaldo is back with Portugal’s national team for the international break. There were doubts about his national team selection after a miserable Qatar FIFA World Cup campaign. However, the new Portugal manager Roberto Martinez cleared the air by selecting Ronaldo for the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Ronaldo was on 196 appearances before the Lichtenstein game, and when he started for Portugal, it meant he broke the record for most appearances in international soccer for men. It was a normal day in-house for the Portuguese, who often break the record. Moreover, he broke the record in style by scoring two goals. Ronaldo fans are excited about their GOAT and reacted on social media.

Al Nassr, the current club of Ronaldo, tweeted about the record after the Lichtenstein game. Fans were quick to react and showed their excitement in the replies. One fan wrote“The records just keep coming,” with goat and heart emoji. 

A few fans wrote that Ronaldo doesn’t follow records, but records follow the Portuguese. One fan labeled the five-time Ballon d’Or winner as “a true icon”, while others labeled him “a history maker”. They also praised the remarkable longevity of the 38-year-old. 

Ronaldo showed he still had a game left in him. He scored twice in the game, taking his international goal tally to 120. His first goal came from a penalty spot after the Lichtenstein defender fouled Joao Cancelo in the penalty box. The five times Champions League winner scored his second with a thumping free kick from just outside the box.

The Portuguese will be eyeing 200 international caps with Portugal in the next international break. Al Nassr forward revealed before the game against Lichtenstein that he was close to taking a big call on his international future.

Ronaldo was talking to the press ahead of the Lichtenstein game on Thursday when he revealed he considered retirement after the miserable World Cup campaign. He came into the World Cup after a poor start to the season and ending his contract with Manchester United.

Meanwhile, after long consideration with his family and friends, the Portuguese decided to continue. Martinez selected him for the Portuguese national team for the current Euro Qualifiers against Lichtenstein and Luxembourg. It will be interesting to see how Ronaldo performs under the new manager and whether he plays in the Euros next year.
