“The Fans Deserve to Know” – Serena Williams’ Husband Alex Ohanian Urges EA Sports to Answer About the Iconic Twerk Celebration From NWSL Star

The NWSL announced a partnership with EA Sports recently. The announcement came ahead of the start of the 11th NWSL season on March 25. As part of the agreement, NWSL will feature in FIFA 23 starting March 15. After the news, Alexis Ohanian, husband of tennis star Serena Williams, has asked EA Sports whether the twerking celebrations of the NWSL star will be available in the game or not. 

As per reports, all 12 NWSL teams will be available in the Kick Off, Tournament Mode, Head to Head season, and Online Friendlies game modes in FIFA 23. EA Sports will also add kits, badges, trophies, and player celebrations. FIFA 23 will have four NWSL stadiums in the game. Despite having the key details of the NWSL mapped out, one celebrity posed a crucial question:

Serena Williams’ husband curious over Kansas City Current star’s celebrations in FIFA 23

Kansas City Current midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta’s twerking celebration made waves across the soccer community when it was posted. She celebrated with the iconic gesture against Angel City FC where Serena Williams and Ohanian are minority stakeholders. Ohanian captioned the tweet with a question to EA Sports about whether all the celebrations of LaBonta will be available on FIFA 23. To this, Alexis Ohanian replied, “Answer them EASPORTSFIFA, the fans deserve to know if we’re getting full Lo’eau LaBonta.”

LaBonta got the nickname of the Celly Queen for her goal celebrations. She started her senior professional career with Sky Blue FC. The 29-year-old then signed for the FC Kansas City in 2016. The club then added her to the Utah Royals roster in 2017 after FC Kansas City wrapped up its operations. Royals also ceased their operations in 2020, and as part of the transfer of assets, LaBonta become part of the expansion team Kansas City Current in 2021. 

It will be interesting to see now whether EA Sports add all the celebrations of the Celly Queen to the game or not. It will be an enormous step for the future of NWSL when it goes live on FIFA 23. Everyone around NWSL is happy and waiting for March 15, when the clubs will be available for fans to play on the gaming platforms. 

The latest season of the NWSL will begin just days after its debut in FIFA 23.

NWSL kicks off on March 25

NWSL and its 12 franchises are gearing up for the 11th season, starting later this month. Portland Thorns will start their defense of the title against Orlando Pride. Previous year’s runners-up, Kansas City Current, will kick off the 11th season of NWSL away to North Carolina Courage.

It will be an important season for the league as the FIFA Women’s World Cup is scheduled this year. Many soccer players will be eager in the NWSL to show their performances to make their cases strong for World Cup selection. There won’t be many international competitive games, so coaches will focus on the performance of the players in the leagues.
