Luis Suarez overlooked a year and a half that remained in his multi-million dollar Gremio contract to sign for Inter Miami. Not only did he miss Gremio’s millions, but he also took a pay cut to reunite with Lionel Messi. Suarez, however, has not been always this fond of David Beckham‘s club. Back in 2020, the Herons had approached the Uruguayan striker shortly after leaving FC Barcelona. But he was ‘fit enough to continue in Europe,’ and Beckham lost to Atletico Madrid in the race to land El Pistolero back then.
However, Miami continued to pursue the star striker. Whereas, he continued to postpone the potential move. Now that Suarez finally gave in to Miami’s advance, he recalled how his past interactions with the club had panned out.

Luis Suarez recently spoke to the press for the first time since he became an Inter Miami player. Journalist Franco Panizo asked the veteran striker when Inter Miami had first contacted him. “2019, 2020, that’s where I was most looking forward to it, but oh well. I felt fit enough to stay in Europe, that’s why I went to Atletico. Then there was no chance,” said Suarez. Getting an opportunity to play for yet another top Spanish club at that age was indeed a bargain for El Pistolero.

Suarez remained on the Herons’ radar after he left Atletico Madrid and later joined Brazil’s Gremio. However, as Suarez puts it, he was keen on upping his game and being professional in Gremio. The Miami offer was a distraction he consciously avoided back then. Nevertheless, reuniting with Barcelona pals in the MLS was too good an offer for Suarez to refuse. The player kick-started his Inter Miami run by training with his old Barca pals and new teammates at Fort Lauderdale. After the training, Suarez made clear how ambitious he is for Inter Miami to win major titles.

Suarez wants to win it all
Last year, Leo Messi catapulted Inter Miami to win the Leagues Cup- their first-ever competitive title. Suarez thinks he and his teammates can achieve the same and more. “Why wouldn’t we dream of winning all four titles this year,”Suarez said. The Uruguayan has overlooked how Miami fell last season before they made it to the playoffs. Considering Suarez, Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba had won the treble with Barcelona, winning the MLS Cup, Leagues Cup, MLS Community Shield, and the CONCACAF Champions Cup doesn’t look like a distant dream for the Herons.
