While the whole world continues to talk about the shocking incident, critics have come out to vocally blast the Brazilian national team.
The match was delayed as even players tried to cool down the flares at the Maracana stadium. Eventually, everything cooled off after both teams went inside a locker room, as Messi even refused to play the game.

In ESPN’s latest installment of “The Gab & Juls Show,” Gab Marcotti, Julien Laurens, and Gustavo Hofman all spoke on the shocking incident. Laurens started by highlighting that the match was expected to remain tense from Brazil’s POV due to the previous results. “I just never expected it to be such a bad game, I won’t lie,” said Laurens.
The French journalist then claimed that 46 fouls were committed throughout the game and the ball wasn’t in play for more than 50 minutes. Additionally, while expressing his frustrations over the delay, he said, “This is ridiculous! It’s like a parody of football; it’s not even football.” Marcotti also highlighted his frustration over Messi leaving the pitch early.
Notably, while agreeing with Laurens, Gustavo Hofman said, “I think that the tension inside the Marana Stadium’s stands went to the field. So what we saw in the first half, that was not football and we’re not used to watching Brazil play like that.” Indeed, it’s clear that all three revered journalists are not happy with what happened during the match.
