Yesterday, the USWNT qualified for the round of 16 after playing a dull draw against Portugal. It was a narrow escape for the ladies, as they went to the next round with just a few inches. While their performance is getting criticized by the fans and pundits alike, their veteran player, Megan Rapinoe, also reacted to the match with profanity.
It wasn’t the result many expected it to be, as the USA gave a lackluster performance. Certainly, this has led the team’s seasoned players to reflect on yesterday’s blunder.

While it’s a great achievement for the USWNT to qualify for the knockout stages, American fans are not happy with the way it happened. Seemingly, it also didn’t impress Rapinoe, who had some constructive criticism after the game. The post-game analysis even included her dropping an F-bomb.
“I was like, f—. Right at the end, I mean, yeah, that’s stressful,” said the 2X World Cup winner, as stated by the Marketwatch. “Because you’re out. If that goes in, you’re out. Your whole international career is over. It’s terrible.” Earlier, the 37-year-old stated her plans to retire at the end of the prestigious campaign.
To the knockout rounds.

Rapinoe came on as a substitute in the 61st minute on Tuesday, and she hasn’t performed well so far. The 2019 Women’s World Cup Golden Boot winner has yet to score a goal or assist. “Obviously we want to play great and score a lot of goals, and we didn’t do that. We know that it can and has to be better, moving forward. But, ultimately, we’re on to the next round,” she added.
Hearing Rapinoe’s words does indicate that the team has realized their true face in the competition so far. Be that as it may, they must be looking to get their game faces on. After all, it was a lucky escape from the USWNT.
A lucky qualification for the USWNT
The USWNT hasn’t lived up to its standards in the competition so far. Vlatko Andonovski’s side managed to finish Group E with just five points. That came following a win against Vietnam and two consecutive draws against the Netherlands and Portugal. Moreover, this is Team USA’s worst form in the group stages.

Likely, the 4X champions of the golden trophy will be looking to turn things around, as there’s no going back now. A minor error in the latter stages of the competition will derail their dream of winning the historic three-peat. Certainly, the USWNT must keep themselves balanced in the upcoming matches if they want to bring the trophy back home.
