It seems Wrexham is finally close to achieving its long-awaited goal of winning the National League. The Welsh club has been struggling for quite a long time, but ever since the new owners came, things have lifted off in quite a way.

Once a club that was on the brink of major collapse was somehow brought back to life, all thanks to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. They have helped the Fifth Division side dream of long-awaited promotion.

Currently, Wrexham is at the top of the table, just a point ahead of their rivals, Notts County. They will be looking to keep it that way, while Notts will try everything in their power to change the course of the game.

Former Wrexham star hails Notts County

Now, of course, for Wrexham’s impressive form, everyone at the club, including the players, staff, coach, and owners, deserves high-end praise. However, this might be contradicting for former Wrexham player, Andy Morrell.

The former player-manager reckons it’s Notts County who have brought the best out of Phil Parkinson’s side. “We can only worry about ourselves, we can’t worry what they are doing,” said the 48-year-old. “But I think the number of points Wrexham has is because of Notts County.

“Wrexham have had to keep winning to be able to stay right in there so both of them have pushed each other to this ridiculous amount of points that they’ve both got, and could get.” Morrell believes both have pushed each other to move to the top of the table.

Wrexham have already surpassed the amount of goals they scored last year, they have already got more points than last year, and with nine games to go that is ridiculous. I can’t see anything other than Wrexham getting out of this league this year,” he added.

Cutthroat competition for silverware

With just a few games left in the National League, the pressure to win the title is increasing for both clubs. Wrexham is at the top of the table with 91 points. On the other hand, Notts are just a point behind, who are coming off a 3-1 win against Eastleigh.

A brace from Ruben Rodrigues and a strike from Macaulay Longstaff were enough to clear the four-point gap against the leaders. However, Wrexham still has a game in hand, thus making them the side with an advantage.

Either way, the title race might be decided when they face each other on April 10. Indeed, it is going to be a huge clash as both sides will be desperate for a win.
