Is Gregg Berhalter to blame for Tyler Adams' injury? US Soccer needs to answer for this mess!

Gregg Berhalter just can’t seem to catch a break. Even after getting relieved from the USMNT job, the American tactician has again found himself in the negative limelight after Tyler Adams allegedly suffered an injury. Fans are slamming Berhalter alongside the US Soccer Federation for playing Adams in Copa America 2024 while he was ‘still in pain.’

The 25-year-old recently underwent back surgery, just days after his nation crashed out of the CONMEBOL-based tournament within the group stages. As per the reports from journalist Simon Stone on X, Adams is expected to miss the Premier League 2024/25 kick-off with Bournemouth and will again get sidelined for months of domestic action.

Interestingly, The Cherries’ boss Andoni Iraola gave an update regarding the versatile defender: “He wanted to play Copa America because it was very important for him, but he had restrictions and was still in pain, so two days after they were knocked out, he had surgery. He is out for some time. It is difficult to say how long but he won’t be fit for the start of the season. But September? October? I don’t know.”

Notably, Adams felt the back problem near the end of the PL 2023/24 campaign. Unfortunately, the former Leeds man’s participation in all three group matches worsened his injury. This comes out to be a major blow for both the player as well Bournemouth. Last October, he underwent hamstring surgery which saw the US international make a return in Spring 2024.

However, the ex-Leipzig man returned to the recuperation room with a back spasm. Now, the injury seems to have relapsed which has made his new season uncertain, leaving fans worldwide enraged.

Tyler Adams’ injury saw Gregg Berhalter and US Soccer bearing the brunt

The latest blow to Tyler Adams has left a chunk of fans infuriated, who are grilling Gregg Berhalter for risking the star player in Copa America 2024.

Have an interesting take?

This fan says that if the former manager knew that the defender was allowing himself to play in the Copa America 2024, then this is something that Gregg should have taken care of. The 50-year-old should have either managed his game time well or shouldn’t have even selected him in the first place.

Gregg Berhalter just saw himself get criticized for Team USA’s poor display in the Copa America stages, that too as host nation. Now, aside from his tactical acumen, fingers are being raised over his accountability, decision-making as well as poor team management.

The manager’s duty is not just to help the team win games but also to look out for his players, something which Berhalter may have ignored. Even though Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola mentioned that playing the Copa was ‘important‘ for Adams, the US Federation especially should have taken the tough call.

Without a doubt, the talent on American soil is quite diverse. Gregg Berhalter had plenty of players to choose from. Yet, he decided to call up Tyler, who came fresh off injured.

However, the defender is now again going to be spending rest of his time on sidelines, with the biggest threat that even the return date is uncertain.
