Days after a successful return to the MLS, Inter Miami just faced Nashville. Lionel Messi has been phenomenal in each and every game since his debut in the US. Compared to the previous games, this one turned out to be a low-key affair between the two sides. Despite a few big chances throughout the 90 minutes, the game ended in a goalless draw.

The Miami-based soccer club seemed much more balanced today on the pitch. While dominating the majority of the possession during the game, the Herons had more shots on goal too.

Since Messi’s debut, most of the games have either been ties leading to a penalty shootout or a thrilling high-scoring nail-biter. Well, their fixture against Nashville was very different. Mainly because Miami focused on stability more than going with an all-out attack approach. The Argentine soccer legend had a few chances to score throughout the game, but couldn’t capitalize on them.

At the halftime whistle, both teams walked into the tunnel with a 0-0 scoreline. It was pretty much the same picture about half an hour later on the pitch. The goal was just not coming for Lionel Messi and his team. Either side was yet to break the shackles. Inter Miami had a penalty scare in the 90+1 minute but VAR ruled it out. If it was given, Nashville could have possibly run away with the game in stoppage time.

Many of the fans were puzzled and disappointed after looking at the outcome of the game. For sure, no one expected a 0-0 scoreline in an Inter Miami game with Messi at the helm. Here’s how the fans reacted after the full-time whistle.

Obviously, this wasn’t an outcome that the fanbase expected to witness especially since the Argentine soccer legend’s arrival.

That’s one positive perspective to have!

A fan called out the opposition for their defensive approach throughout the game.

The 26-year-old defender had a decent game defensively. Keeping a clean sheet in a high-scoring MLS league can sometimes be challenging.

Might be a little too late this season. However, you just never know, don’t you?

The rest of the fanbase was mainly disappointed. The World Cup winner has unknowingly set a high bar for every Inter Miami game. As per those high-scoring standards and nail-biting thrillers, this result could be considered to be ‘unacceptable’.

All in all, this game didn’t turn out to be a goal fest. From the looks of it, it was more of both the teams not allowing the opposition the score first. In an attempt to maintain a clean sheet, they actually ended up doing so. However, it was a 0-0 clean sheet popularly known as a stalemate. Nevertheless, this game could still be considered progress in the Lionel Messi era.
