During a preseason friendly in San Diego on July 26, English striker Paul Mullin suffered a lung puncture after colliding with Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop. The warm-up game injury was expected to keep Wrexham’s top scorer out of action for six to eight weeks. The club had been reportedly in the market for a replacement striker. Despite his lung puncture 10 days ago, Paul Mullin was present at the Dodgers stadium as a spectator during the Robins match against Oakland Athletics in Major League Baseball.

Paul Mullin had 38 goals in 46 games for the Red Dragons helping them to win the National League last season. He was believed to be the important player for the Red this season until the shocking incident against the Red Devils. Medical staff instructed the star striker to remain in the United States until he had sufficiently recovered before traveling back to the U. K . Rob McElhenney, the co-owner of Wrexham, offered Mullins a two-week stay in his Hollywood home to help him heal from his recent injury. In the interim, the former Cambridge United striker shared an Instagram story about his attendance at the Los Angeles Dodgers game while he was in the States.
The Wrexham forward also shared the official match ball and quoted, “Match ball no1 for reason”. Paul Mullins’ presence at the MLB match just after 10 days of his injury was a testament to his strength and determination to recover as well as be back for his Welsh side. Although Wrexham still trying to assess the full extent of Mullins’ injury after a dreadful turn of events for the striker.

The Snapdragon stadium in San Diego on 26th July witnessed a record 34,248 crowd that filled the stadium for the match against Wrexham FC and Manchester United. In the 12th minute of the match, United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop made a reckless challenge on Paul Mullin, which left the Wrexham player writhing in pain on the ground. He was down for seven minutes with intensive medical care.
Eventually, Mullins got to his feet slowly, walking off the field with assistance while wearing an oxygen mask. Wrexham defeated the young United side 3-1, with the match ending in a convincing victory for the Welsh team. The entire Wrexham community had been hoping for a speedy recovery for their striker, as the League Two season commences for the team this month.
