Some of the best players in the world have played for Manchester City. Names such as Sergio Aguero, Kasper Schmeichel, and David Silva have had influential careers for the Sky Blues. However, one name that fans often forget is Ilkay Gündogan. The former Cityzens skipper is amongst the most underrated players. The German led Manchester City to the historic treble last season before joining Barcelona as a free agent.
Well, the Cityzens are in for a treat with Ilkay Gündogan set to return to the Etihad. But hold your horses as it won’t be in a playing capacity. Gundogan touched on his memories with the Sky Blues ahead of the FA Cup finals while adding he’d love to see the Cityzens one more time before hanging up his boots.

While Gundogan may be eager to reunite with his former teammates, the German has a long way to go considering the upheaval at FC Barcelona. While Barcelona might be his dream club, the player doesn’t seem too optimistic at Camp Nou. The former Manchester City star has openly spoken against his team on numerous occasions, forcing the manager to intervene.
Ilkay Gündogan not pleased with his time at Barcelona
The ex-Manchester City refused a contract extension last summer to join Barcelona. The German had his mind set on a move to the club and even took a pay cut to join the Blaugrana. However, it seems the German counted his eggs quite early. Reports suggest the midfielder is quite dissatisfied with his move to Spain.

Gundogan is not pleased with the team’s lack of fighting spirit. The midfielder was also frustrated with Ronald Araujo, as the midfielder blamed Araujo for Barcelona’s loss to PSG. According to reports, players within the dressing room did not take too well to the public outrage. Many felt Ilkay Gündogan should have confronted Araujo rather than speaking to the media.
Former head coach Xavi had to step in between as he calmed things between the two players. It will be interesting to see if the German remains with the club come summer or hops onto the Saudi Arabian bandwagon amidst interest from the Middle Eastern clubs.
