Barcelona is in financial trouble. As a result, the club hasn’t been able to register the contract renewals of Gavi and Ronald Araujo. La Liga has been strict with the salary cap and FFP compliance, making it difficult for the Blaugrana to register players. With one of Barcelona’s superstars set to leave the club, the league president feels it is a small step in signing Messi.
Will we see Lionel Messi playing for FC Barcelona next season?
Recently, Sergio Busquets announced he will leave the club after spending over 14 years with the club. He was one of the highest earners at the club. His contract was ending at the season, and despite rumors of the contract extension, the player will leave the club. It comes as a massive boost for the Blaugrana. It will have a significant impact on the wage bill of the club.

Barcelona sees it as a step closer to bringing Lionel Messi to Camp Nou. However, La Liga’s president thinks the club has a long way to go. Javier Tebas recently said, “Busquets to leave Barça is the beginning of the road for Messi to return. But to reach the end, they still have to walk many meters. I’m not the one to give them the green light, it will be the economic control.”
Tebas also feels Busquets leaving is a first step taken. FC Barcelona has to resort to economic levers to sign several players last season. However, the league didn’t allow the club to register new contracts as Barcelona is behind the salary cap. It will take an uphill task, and reports suggest the club has already presented its plan to bring the Argentine. Also, Blaugrana has sent two offers to Messi.

Both offers are the minimum possible wages ($213000) per year that La Liga allows, with other aspects to increase the final compensation.
In one offer, apart from minimum wages, Messi will get a certain percentage on the merchandise sale, taking the total compensation to $200 million. On the other hand, the second offer will be a farewell game for the Argentine that will take the compensation to $100 million. Whether Messi accepts those offers or the club tables, any new offers remain to be seen.
