Speculations have forced Seko Fofana to take the mic and finally put rumors to bed. Although Fofana wants to continue at Al Nassr, he asserted that his move to Saudi Arabia did not signify an “early retirement,” thereby keeping the possibility of a future return to Europe open. In an interview with Le Equipe, he said, “In two, three, four years, I will still have the level to play in the Champions League, I am very demanding of myself. People might think I’m going to regress or stop progressing here, but not at all.”

Initial reports suggested that Fofana was seeking an exit due to a series of lackluster performances, coupled with coach Luis Castro’s interest in swapping the midfielder for another European talent. However, the situation took a turn when the player himself claimed that he was “happy to serve Al Nassr.” While his presence is a major boost for Al Nassr, the Knights of the Najd are in for some good news on the defensive front.

Just hours ago, news came that Al Nassr was looking to offload Seko Fofana and register David Ospina in his place. However, those claims were debunked by a renowned journalist. Instead, Luis Castro wants the veteran goalkeeper to leave and keep Fofana. Furthermore, he won’t be signing a replacement for the former Arsenal goalkeeper.

Alternatively, the inclination is towards acquiring a foreign defender to pair with Aymeric Laporte should the team allowance of foreign players rise to nine. Moreover, Castro holds the view that the current goalkeeper, Nawaf Al-Aqidi, is performing admirably and deems him to be on par with a foreign goalkeeper in terms of skill level.
