Al Nassr once again reminded everyone of its prowess following the 3-1 victory over Al Ettifaq. One of the major talking points of the night was Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese icon enjoyed himself and capped it off with a goal and an assist. On another day, the attacker could have scored perhaps more. Ronaldo’s display impressed Al Ettifaq boss, Steven Gerrard, who had big words of praise and ‘great admiration’ for him. It seems the duo have come a long way from their Premier League days.

The strike against Al Ettifaq was Ronaldo’s 21st of the season. More importantly, it helped Al Nassr narrow the gap to Al Hilal to just 10 points with a game in hand. As the business end of the season begins, the expectations will be on the soccer icon to set the standards and lead from the front.

This seems to be the opinion of Liverpool legend and Al Ettifaq boss, Steven Gerrard. He said, “Cristiano Ronaldo is a goal machine. I have great admiration for him. He’s an older player but still performs better than all the others on the pitch”. Moreover, the Englishman also praised Ronaldo’s work rate. He said, “He has individually achieved everything possible and is still going strong, still hungry for goals.” Huge praise indeed from one soccer legend to another.

Steven Gerrard had previously come up against Ronaldo & Co in the King’s Cup. This was a rare occasion where he managed to keep CR7 quiet. However, a goal from Sadio Mane meant that Al Nassr defeated his side 1-0. Not the first time Cristiano Ronaldo has emerged victorious against the former Liverpool man.

Even during his spells at Manchester United and Real Madrid, CR7 more often than not walked away victorious against Liverpool. His record against them reads 9 wins in 14 games. Perhaps, a reason why Ronaldo is the ‘GOAT’ for the Al Ettifaq boss, or is he?

Despite his immense admiration for Lionel Messi, there seems to be only one ‘GOAT’ as far as Steven Gerrard is concerned. Following CR7’s landing in Saudi Arabia, the Englishman said, “The arrival of ‘The GOAT’ as we call him, Cristiano, him arriving in January obviously a huge signing.” He also spoke about how Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to the country brought in other big names to the league.

Steven Gerrard further added, “He still had a lot of football to offer. So, from afar, for six months, I was looking in at Cristiano Ronaldo’s results, at the league, watching some games and watching some highlights.” Considering these past comments and his current statement, the Liverpool icon seems to be in CR7’s corner in the never-ending ‘GOAT’ debate.
