Cristiano Ronaldo himself is a landmark in the soccer world. The Portuguese superstar’s stellar career has garnered him countless admirations and also in many debates and dream teams. Just like ardent fans, even legendary players are in awe of him, as England icon Steve McManaman insists ‘it has to be Cristiano’ while highlighting the attributes of ‘speed’ and ‘finishing’ that make Ronaldo an unmatched force on the field.

This candid confession came after the former Liverpool superstar played a rapid-fire round segment with ESPN. McManaman was asked to create his best Galactico side based on several attributes. Interestingly, it started with speed, for which he took Cristiano’s name. Zidane was named for skill, Fernando Hierro for passing ability, and Roberto Carlos made the cut for his strength. Surprisingly, Portugal icon Raul was named for his football IQ.

Meanwhile, when asked about mentality, the host insisted that McManaman could also take his name. However, the former Los Blancos man cheekily responded, “Everybody, everybody who plays for Real Madrid,” while adding, “Mentality, maybe Luis Figo because he came here and played in such difficult circumstances.” When asked about finishing, the ex-Manchester City star said, “It has to be Cristiano.” Last but not least, defensive midfielder icon Claude Makelele was named for endurance.

This is indeed quite an interesting Galactico team from McManaman, which every Madrid fan might resonate with. Additionally, the legendary midfielder evidently holds CR7 in high regard. Earlier, McManaman even presented his thoughts on the never-ending debate between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Steve McManaman would give the ‘nod’ to Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi

Back in 2016, before the exciting El Classico, journalist Guillem Balague asked Steve McManaman which player he would sign between Messi and Ronaldo. While insisting Leo is made for Barca and Ronaldo for Madrid, he said, “I don’t think this thing that Leo Messi would find it hard against Stoke on a Tuesday night makes any sense. He’d probably find it very easy, but the fact that Cristiano has played in three different leagues, I would probably just give him the nod.”

McManaman also claimed that the soccer world is ‘incredibly lucky’ to have both of these undisputable stars, who gave each other tough competition for many years. “We are really blessed with two different types of players. I think they are the best,” concluded the former England international. It looks like the G.O.A.T. debate is settled for McManaman.
