“Stay Strong. We Are All With You” – Good Samaritan Luka Modric Donates One of His Most Iconic Possessions to Turkey Earthquake Victims

The Turkey earthquake shook everyone apart. Many people lost their lives and were left homeless after a devastating earthquake hit the country. However, many people stepped forward to show their support and gave hope to many people. One of them was Croatian soccer superstar Luka Modric. He donated his 2022 World Cup-worn jersey to earthquake victims in Turkey. 

Significantly, the Turkish ambassador to Zagreb, Yavuz Selim Kiran, thanked the Real Madrid midfielder for his heartwarming support. They would initiate the sale of the jersey and donate it towards public well-being. 

Luka Modric donates World Cup jersey for Turkey earthquake victims

The Turkish ambassador tweeted to appreciate the show of support. He stated, “Thanks #Modric Luka Modric, star player of Real Madrid and Croatian National Team… #Qatar2022 He delivered the jersey, which he wore against Morocco in his first match in the World Cup Groups, to our Embassy to be donated to the earthquake victims.”

Moreover, Modric posted a video and explained his thoughts. He said, “Hello to all my Turkish friends. I just want to send you a lot of strength and a lot of prayers in these difficult moments. Stay strong. We are all with you, and we’re praying for you.”

Apart from Luka, other Croatian players like goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic and RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol shared their jerseys. Livakovic donated his gloves as a kind gesture. Everyone appreciated their decision to do this, and fans voiced their support for the talented player. The Croatian team continues to garner goodwill off the pitch after their splendid showings during the World Cup.

Modric shines during the World Cup

As Croatia reached the final of the 2018 World Cup, they repeated some of those antics at the 2022 Qatar World Cup. They finished third by showcasing their grit and passion in major games. Notably, Luka Modric was the key player and provided a calm influence in the middle of the park. There were two games between Croatia and Morocco. The first game saw Croatia drawing with the African world beaters to a score of 0-0. 

Their second showdown was for the third-place trophy that went to Croatia as Luka Modric once again proved to be the telling difference. They won the match 2-1, and Modric probably played his last game for his country. But even if he retires, he remains arguably the finest player Croatia has ever produced.
